No volunteers, no Festival! It’s that simple! Without the help of some 4,000 committed citizens, the Derby Festival would not be the grand civic celebration it has become. With nearly 70 events, production of even a portion of the Festival would be impossible without volunteer support.

The Pegasus Pin Committee is always in need of enthusiastic individuals to sell Pegasus Pins at many Derby Festival events including Thunder Over Louisville, U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest events, the Basketball Classic and Stock Yards Bank Great Bed Races just to name a few. Selling Pegasus Pins at Festival events is not only fun but a great way to meet new friends. The Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Sponsorship and Pin Program provide not only an invaluable source of revenue, but a visible show of support for the Festival and its events. The program – with its trademark winged horse icon – has become a model in the industry that many other festivals have tried to duplicate. Pegasus Pin Sales - Group Fundraising Opportunities

The Kentucky Derby Festival needs you! The enthusiasm and hard work of our dedicated volunteers is how we maintain our success. Volunteers are the backbone of the Festival, we can’t do it without you!

The Festival is a not-for-profit organization with one of its major financial resources being provided by Pegasus Sponsorship (pin) sales. Proceeds from pin sales help the Festival to offer more than 60% of its events free or at a very low cost to the community. We’ve been putting our creativity to work in planning for 2014 to be one of the best festivals in our history and that is where you come in. The Kentucky Derby Festival needs your support and participation more than ever!

Fundraising Opportunity – It’s not all about the Festival! By providing a sales team for the Pegasus Pin Program you have the advantage to participate in a great fundraising opportunity for your organization while having fun. And, your organization selling Pegasus Sponsorships (pins) through your own existing activities or at Festival events can be quite profitable. Participating organizations will receive 7% of the total dollar amount sold through their own activities, i.e., organization members, families or friends, etc. Or the group may volunteer with sales at Festival events and receive a pre-determined amount of money or a % of sales depending on the event and which monetary amount is greater. We encourage you to do both!

Attached is a list of the Festival events where volunteers are needed. If volunteering for Thunder Over Louisville or the BalloonFest Glow a minimum of 10 – 15 volunteers at each of those events is required. The volunteers must be at least 16 years of age due to the liability and safety concerns of handling currency.
